“Life is too short to be small.”

~Disraeli

Stilt dancers live large! Stilt dancers stand out in the crowds! Stilt dancing is swinging great fun and dazzling to watch! Stilt dancers add a whole new dimension to the dance floor, and to the revelry at parades, fairs and parties.

“I used to be respobsible, but now all I can do is dance and clap my hands.”

~Rumi

Our stilt dancers take their natural love of dance to new heights. Stilt dancing and music belong together like wine in a hearty stew. With displays of awesome stilt spins, arabesques and pirouettes, tall glides, two steps, rowdy rock n roll, swing and Cajun rhythms, jitterbug moves. Towering above everyone else, exuding enthusiasm and immense joy, they create splendor and spectacle, silliness and contagious joy for all around. Inspiring!

Our stilt dancers also enjoy playful strutting to their own inner rhythms, when there is no music provided. Our stilt dancers are gregarious well versed greeters, practiced baby cheek pinchers and hand shakers, generous with goofy antics and improv banter, eager to whoop it up making audiences glad they’ve come. Oh, the heights our stilt dancers will go to entertain themselves and you!

Our stilt dancers also love stopping to interact with the audiences, and are often found posing for pictures with them. These pictures end up in thousands of picture albums, screen savers and photo sharing sites, and extend the memories of good times. For event coordinators, this translates that stilt dancers are excellent promotion for your event, and will ensure these folks will come back next time bringing even more family and friends!

Our stilt dancers’ create characters to match various event themes. Costumes are often found on raids on the Salvation Army, and New York’s garment district, then we’ve locked ourselves into our studio’s sewing sweatshops to make splashy tall outfits. We’ve raped commercial patterns. We’ve made up new patterns to fit various event themes. We’ve collected a huge costume closet full of costumes: denim and gingham for tall scarecrows, tie-dye duds for tall hippies, glitzy black tie tuxedos for tall gents, splendiferous sequined evening gowns for the tall ladies, lame capes for our tall caped crusaders, and butt crack baggies for our hip hop impresarios. We’re ready to mix n match, add accessories, or start from scratch to meet your event’s needs.

An added attraction at events can be stilt walking workshops and private stilt walking lessons for those inspired enough to try joining the stilt dancers on the high road. These lessons and workshops have been offered same-day at the event site or arranged through sign-ups for later dates. For more information about stilt walking workshops or private lessons visit the Stilt Walking Workshop page.

Our stilt dancers have taken entertainment to new heights at the Salisbury Fall Festival, presenting a large troupe of tall stilted scarecrows in Salisbury Connecticut; at many New York Village Halloween Parades we have joined forces with stilt dancers from Bond Street Theater Company adding our special blend of controlled mayhem kicking off this most bizarre and enormous parade; we’ve danced at dance parties at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MassMoCA) in North Adams Massachusetts; danced on the stage of Northampton Center for the Performing Arts with stilt dancers Moti Zemmelman and Ezzell Florinina for Northampton Massachusetts Firstnight; at a gala fundraiser for Martin County Library System in Stuart Florida. Last winter our stilt dancers revved up the dance steps of thousands at Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday celebrations with Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue in Hollywood Florida; and at Knology Sea-Blues Festival with Coco Montoya and Derek Trucks in Clearwater Florida, and numerous smaller but still special events. Spring found us dancing in the New York Dance Parade and New York Dance Festival, and then with New York Music in Motion. King sized fun!

To invite our stilt dancers to add a tall order of spice at your next event, consider that we charge reasonable rates, pose minimal staging requirements, and promise high piles of extra tall fun! Contact the Mortal Beasts & Deities as soon as possible!
